Cholera outbreak leaves at least 103 dead across Nigeria
On Tuesday, July 16, it was revealed that out of 3,623 suspected cases spread over 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the cholera outbreak in Nigeria has claimed 103 lives.
As of July 15, 2024, 187 Local Government Areas (LGAs) were included in the cases and deaths, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
States leading in cases and deaths are Lagos, Bayelsa, Abia, Ebonyi, Katsina, and Zamfara; together, they account for 83% of the disease's total burden.
According to the government, despite this, the country has been reporting fewer cases and fatalities than in months prior to the outbreak's initial detection in 2024. Three cases and one death have been linked to yellow fever outbreaks in the states of Ekiti and Bayelsa.
