Classroom building collapses in Ondo, kills capenter
On Wednesday, tragedy struck at Okitipupa, the administrative centre of the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, when a derelict L. The town's A. Primary School collapsed on middle-aged carpenter Ademola Lawrence, instantly killing him.
The 52-year-old carpenter was reportedly trying to bring down the deteriorating building so that a new one could be built when it fell on him.
According to reports, the father of four passed away suddenly just before his remains were pulled from the wreckage.
The deceased, who was from Ode-Irele in the state's Irele Local Government Area, was working as a bricklayer when the event occurred, a source said.
The dead returned to work after a new Headmaster started at the school with a fresh contract, the source said, adding that a previous Head Teacher had terminated the contract.
The deceased's body had been placed in the mortuary of the State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa in the meantime.
SP Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the sad nature of the occurrence.
