Container falls on SUV in Lagos
On Friday night, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority reported that a second 40-foot container had collapsed in the state's Ago-Palace Way region.
This occurrence brings the total for Friday's container falls in various state regions to five.
Three containers had collapsed in the Ikeja, Ojuelegba, and Mile 12 districts of the state, The PUNCH had earlier on Friday afternoon reported.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Education for LASTMA, however, said in a statement that the most recent event was caused by a trailer's brake failure.
Also, he mentioned that an SUV was rear-ended by the container, but that no one was hurt.
Bolaji Oreagba, the general manager of LASTMA, stated that the organization had five instances today.
He said, “Today alone, the agency recorded five different container truck accidents at Ketu inward Mile 12, Ojuelegba Bridge inward stadium, under the bridge by LASUTH, Ago Palace Road and Oke-Afa bridge inward Jakande Estate.â€
Meanwhile, LASTMA reported that the incident at Ago Palace Way has been reported to the reaction unit of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, requiring an immediate evacuation.
Recall that two containers reportedly fell off the back of a trailer in February, stopping traffic in the region on the Mile 12 bridge heading away from Ikorodu.
Two containers also fell from the Ojuelegba bridge in Lagos in January 2023. In one of the occurrences, a commercial bus' occupants were killed when the container crushed it.
