Corp members call for implementation of N77,000 allowance
Members of the National Youth Service Corps have urged the federal government to provide the N77,000 allowance that was promised in order to ease their financial struggles.
On Wednesday, the corps members expressed their worries on social media.
They claimed that corps members were still receiving the previous N33,000 allowance even after the Federal Government approved a new minimum salary in July 2024.
They claim that because of the increased cost of transportation, food, and other everyday costs for NYSC, the previous grant is no longer viable.
In a post on X, @NoorAjuwon wrote, “3 months later, the Federal Government still believes that N33k is enough for NYSC members to survive.”
@Arbdoolbasid_Jr. asked, “How can we even concentrate on our primary assignment with N33k in this current economic situation?”
Another user, @Eze_na_ujari, stated that he spends N5,000 on transportation and N2,000 on Community Development Service (CDS) contributions, leaving him with N26,000 from the N33,000 allowance.
@blazzin_225 described the situation as “suffering and wickedness” due to bad NYSC lodges, dilapidated bathrooms and toilets, and starvation.
