Country's Football Federation, UEFA confirms Russia has been banned from Euro 2024

Russia's football federation and UEFA both announced on Tuesday that the country will not be participating in the qualification draw for Euro 2024.

Following the invasion of Ukraine, UEFA earlier this year banned the Russian national team and Russian clubs from participating in international events.

“All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of February 28, 2022, which has further been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on July 15, 2022,” European football’s governing body said in a statement.

“Russia is therefore not included in the UEFA European Football Championship 2022-24 qualifying draw.”

Russia saw an appeal against the ban rejected by CAS in July.

“The Union is currently awaiting the full text of the CAS decision, following the study of which a decision will be made on further steps,” the Russian Football Union said.

FIFA also decided to bar Russia from the 2018 World Cup in Qatar.

Initially, the team had earned a spot in the European qualification play-offs.

In addition, Portugal took the position of the Russian women's team at this year's Euro in England.

Germany will host the 2024 European Championship, and the qualifying draw is scheduled for October 9 in Frankfurt.

Due to Belarus' support for Russia, Germany's interior minister has also requested that Belarus be barred from the competition.
