Court adjourns Nnamdi Kanu's case, fixes March 19 for trial
The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the head of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was postponed by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday until March 19.
The date of the trial was set by Judge Binta Nyako, who is hearing Mr. Kanu's terrorism case on behalf of the Nigerian government.
Adegboyega Awomolo, the prosecutor, agreed to bring at least two witnesses on the postponed date. The significant reorganisation of the federal government's prosecution team is demonstrated by Mr. Awomolo's attendance on Monday. Since the investigation began in 2015, this will be the first time an outside prosecutor is in charge of the federal government's team.
Monday saw the continuation of Mr. Kanu's trial after the Supreme Court's decision on December 15, 2023.
After overturning the Court of Appeal's decision to release the IPOB leader, the Supreme Court reinstated Mr. Kanu's trial in December of last year.
Before Federal High Court of Abuja Judge Binta Nyako, Mr. Kanu is on trial for terrorism.
