Court jails Lagos man Nonso Ekeocha over possession of fraudulent documents

Nonso Joseph Ekeocha, a resident of Lagos, was found guilty of possessing false documents and given a one-year prison sentence.

Ekeocha was charged with one count of possessing false documents intended to be used in a romance scam by the Lagos Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC.

The count reads: “Nonso Joseph Ekeocha, on or about the 27th June, 2024 in Lagos, within the judicial division of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, had in your possession, ‘Instagram Profile Account’, wherein you represented yourself as Ronald Gregory, and other related documents for an online dating scam, which you knew or ought to know to be false,”

“Guilty” was his plea to the accusation. After he entered his guilty plea, I. G. Akhanolu, the prosecution's attorney, asked the court to bring his witness, Commission operative Ismail Saifullahi, so he could review the facts.

According to Saifullahi, on June 29, 2024, in Lagos, the defendant and several people involved in computer-related fraud were taken into custody.
