Court remands 51-year-old man for raping 7-year-old girl
A 51-year-old welder named Fatai Amidu was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Center on Thursday by an Ikeja Magistrates' Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling his neighbour's 7-year-old kid.
Amidu's plea was rejected by Chief Magistrate Mrs. B. O. Osunsanmi, who also directed that the case file be transferred to the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for guidance.
In the DPP's opinion, Osunsanmi postponed the case to February 8.
The defendant, who calls the Ogombo neighbourhood of Ajah, Lagos, home, is accused of defiling.
Earlier, ASP Raji Akeem, the prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant had committed the crime on August 17, 2022, at No. 97C, Okun, Ajah, Lagos.
“He told the girl not to tell anyone. She, however, told her grandmother when she felt pains in her private parts,†the prosecutor said.
According to Akeem, the offense violated Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.
Defilement is punishable by a life sentence under this law.
