Court remands Ogun village head for selling government's land
Two village chiefs and four other individuals have been remanded in the Ibara Custodial Centre by an Ogun State Magistrate's Court in Abeokuta for allegedly invading the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation's property.
The 24.253 hectares of land are located in the state capital of Abeokuta's Olorunsogo town on Oba Road.
Olalekan Odemuyiwa and Segun Konigbagbe, the respective village leaders of Agejo and Ake, were remanded by the magistrate, Morenikeji Osibajo.
The local government area of Obafemi-Owode contains the communities.
Wasiu Ogunsina, 51; Kabiru Olafenwa; Babatunde Odemuyiwa, 61; and Dare Awodele are the other participants.
The defendants would be held for 30 days while waiting for the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to issue legal counsel, according to Magistrate Osibajo.
The OGBC management submitted a petition to the office of the Secretary to the State Government on June 19, 2023, according to Inspector Adekanmi Adeusi, the police prosecutor who is a member of the Task Force and Anti-Land Grabbing Unit.
According to Adeusi, the defendants entered the property, sold some of it, and developed other areas, prohibiting the OGBC from using it.
In order to stop the illegal squatters from suffering more losses, the radio station's management demanded that the land be retrieved.
However, Magistrate Osibajo postponed the case until August 15, 2023.
