Court sentences ex-banker to prison over N1.4m fraud
Lagos Olushola Damilola, a former employee of Boctrust Microfinance Bank, received a one-year prison sentence for stealing N1.4 million from a client.
Details of the case were initially revealed on July 11, 2019, and they purport that Lamilola took N1.4 million from a bank customer and used it for his own purposes.
The offender committed the crime at No. 26 Moloney Street Lagos Island between October 2018 and March 2019, according to the prosecutor, DSP Thomas Nurudeen, who testified in court.
According to Nurudeen, the prisoner took N1.4 million from a bank client and used it for his own purposes without funding the client's account.
He stated that the Lagos State, 2015 Criminal Law, Section 287(7), applied to the offence. The banker was found guilty by the Chief Magistrate of the Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos.
According to Chief Magistrate Mr. Peter Nwaka, the jail sentence should start right away. He also gave the prisoner an order to reimburse the bank N1.4 million.
