Court sentences former SGF Nwabuoku to 72 years imprisonment for N868m fraud
Chukwunyere Nwabuoku, a former acting Accountant-General of the Federation, was found guilty of fraud involving N868 million and sentenced to 72 years in jail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday.The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has proven the defendant's nine money laundering allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, according to trial judge Justice James Omotosho."The defendant is hereby convicted as charged," the court declared.Nwabuoku was found guilty on all nine counts by Omotosho, who sentenced him to eight years in prison for each offense, totaling 72 years.However, the judge mandated that the sentences be served consecutively.He called Nwabuoku's actions "appalling," pointing out that the money that was embezzled was intended for defense and security while the prisoner was the Ministry of Defense's Director of Finance and Accounts.Source
