Court sentences Gateman to life imprisonment for defiling employer's children

Happiness Sunday, a steward, was found guilty on Thursday and given a life sentence for sexually abusing the children of his employer, who are 10 and 8 years old.

Sunday, who had worked for the victims' family as a steward and gateman, was given a life sentence by Justice Abiola Soladoye.

On each of the three offences, which involved sexual assault by penetration and defilement, the judge gave him a life sentence.

Soladoye ruled that the charges against the convicted person may be proven by the prosecution.

She further asserted that Sections 137 and 261 of the Lagos State Criminal Code fully satisfy the requirements for defilement and sexual assault by penetration.

According to her, the convict was a bisexual houseboy who was desperate and wicked.

She said, “The defendant is a sexual terrorist who ravished children.

“He is a disloyal worker, egoistic, a terrible person whose sexual perversion is unacceptable.

“His actions are beastly and should be locked away for life because his conduct is utterly disgraceful.”

The court also cautioned parents to keep an eye on their children and never take their care for granted.

Following that, Soladoye gave the defendant a life sentence for each of the three charges.

According to the judge, the sentence should be served concurrently, and the convict's name should be added to the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.

While the convict testified as the only witness, the state's attorney for the prosecution, Mrs. Olufunke Adegoke, called four witnesses and presented three exhibits as evidence during the trial.

The defendant allegedly committed the crimes in 2020 on Jaye Oyedotun Street in Magodo, Lagos, according to the prosecution.
