Court sentences Lagos man to 14 years imprisonment for attempted robbery

Temitope Olowo was given a 14-year prison sentence by a Lagos State High Court in the Tafawa Balewa Square neighbourhood of Lagos State for attempting to rob a person in the State.

The trial judge, Justice Yetunde Adesanya, delivered the verdict to the defendant on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, after a plea agreement application was made. The defendant was sentenced on a one-count modified charge of attempted robbery.

According to reports, Olowo was initially tried on November 9, 2018, on three counts that had a loose connection to arm robbery; he entered a not guilty plea.

Olayemi Shofolu, the prosecution's attorney, called two witnesses during the trial, and the charge was changed as a result of the defendant's attorney, J. I. Osagede, filing for a plea deal.

On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, the prosecution's attorney informed the court of the one-count revised charge before the case was set for hearing.

According to him, Olowo attempted to rob Desmond Ifeanyi of his personal goods, in violation of Section 298(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015. Olowo admitted to the accusation.

As a result, Temitope Olowo was found guilty as charged by Justice Adesanya and given a 14-year prison term.

She stipulated that the sentence would go into effect on October 16, 2017, the date of the defendant's remand.
