Court sentences man to two years imprisonment over N1.3m rent fraud in Lagos
Tunde George, 53, was sentenced to two years in prison by a Chief Magistrate's Court in Surulere, Lagos, yesterday for cheating two travellers of N1.2 million.
After George entered a guilty plea to two counts of stealing and acquiring money by false pretence, the magistrate, Sanusi Adagun, punished him.
Adagun, who offered a fine alternative, mandated that the convict reimburse the complainants N625,000 and N635,000 within a 14-day period, failing which he would face jail time.
George, who resides at No. 17, Iyabo St., Sari Iganmu, Lagos, and was first charged on February 19, implored the court to balance justice and mercy.
The court was previously informed by the prosecutor, Inspector Courage Ekhueorohan, that George had committed the offences on July 21, 2023, at Sari Iganmu Road, Orile Lagos.
He claims that George deceitfully acquired N1.2 million from Abigail Onyiloye and Ugwute Stephen by pretending to rent them a standalone apartment.
According to Ekhueorhan, the offences were against Sections 287 and 314 (3) of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Law.
