Court sentences pastor to two years imprisonment for stealing
A man named Friday Okeneji was given a two-year prison sentence by an Ondo State Magistrates' Court in Akure, the state's capital, for stealing chemical products valued at N130,000.
According to reports, the crime was perpetrated on July 2, 2023, in the town of Iwaro Oka Akoko, in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state. The convict is the pastor of a well-known church there.
According to reports, he stole the materials by breaking into a chemical store.
However, he was detained and charged in court.
He was charged with stealing on two counts and hauled before the court.
The pastor was found guilty and admitted guilt after the two accusations were read to him. He told the judge that he did the crime in order to survive.
He begged for money, claiming he had no other source of support and that he had to pay N150,000 for his mother's August burial.
The pastor was found guilty of the accusations, and the magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, sentenced him to two years in prison with the possibility of a N100,000 fine.
He also counselled the prisoner to start over.
