Court sentences two to 2 years imprisonment for hawking hard drugs
Adeola Adetutu and Godwin Johnson were found guilty on Tuesday and given two-year prison terms apiece by a Federal High Court in Lagos for selling Skushies and hard narcotics.
The pair pleaded guilty to the different counts brought against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and Justice Nicholas Oweibo sentenced them.
Johnson received a two-year prison term in addition to Adetutu's two-year sentence.
The first defendant was charged with selling Skushies (an alcoholic beverage spiked with diazepam, a psychoactive drug equivalent to cocaine and heroin) illegally, while the second defendant was charged with hawking and selling heroin and methamphetamine.
M. J. Mamza, the prosecutor, informed the court that the woman was taken into custody on June 7, 2023, at 2, Shemoye Street, Adura Bus Stop, Alagbado Area, Lagos State, along with the hard drug-laced drink.
She also informed the court that the man was detained on May 23, 2023, at 123, Railway by Fashina Olateju Street Mushin, Lagos State, along with the illegal substances.
According to the prosecutor, the violations of Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, were committed.
Following the convicts’ guilty plea, the prosecutor urged the court to sentence them accordingly.
Prosper Ojakovo, the defendants' attorney, pleaded with the court to balance justice and mercy when passing judgement on his clients.
Both of the defendants were given two-year prison terms by Justice Oweibo.
However, the judge mandated that the first criminal pay N150,000 and the second convict pay N500000 instead of serving jail time.
