Cult clash leaves three dead in Ondo community

In an altercation between two rival cult groups in Owo, the administrative centre of the Owo Local Council of Ondo State, three people have died.

As of the time of publication, the cause of the altercation, which took place at about 9 p.m., was unknown.

Sources said that the conflict raised tension in several areas of the neighbourhood and caused many to hastily run inside.

After moving to the scene of the conflict, according to Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ondo State, who confirmed the altercation, order had been restored.

Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state's police spokeswoman, revealed that the command was aware of the event.

She did, however, claim that police officers were unable to identify the precise location of the incident in the neighbourhood.

She insisted that the locals were unable to provide the police with any information regarding the occurrence.

“Our men are currently on patrol within Owo; I spoke with the Area Commander and the DPO; no one in the town is ready to report or even assist with information.

“However, the anti-cultism men have been deployed in the town,” she said.
