Deborah: Pastor Tunde Bakare condemns killers, says Islam does not support killing
Presidential candidate and Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has challenged Muslims by saying that the Qur'an does not support killing. He made this statement while condemning the killing of Deborah Samuel, a 200-level student at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
The presidential aspirant called for unity and respect for humanity in the country, adding that no human should be treated in such a gruesome way.
Part of the statement read: "It is with deep dismay that I received the news of the horrific murder of Deborah Samuel at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto State.
“No Nigerian, and indeed no human being, should be subjected to such inhumanity at the hands of fellow human beings.
“As a nation of diverse people and culture, there are institutional mechanisms for resolving sensitive conflicts, and provocation notwithstanding, no person under our laws has the right to take laws into their own hands.
“As someone who was a devout Muslim and read the Qur'an from cover to cover, what was done to Deborah Samuel is not justified anywhere in the religion of peace handed down to me by my grandfather, the first chief imam of Iporo -Sodeke Mosque in Abeokuta.â€
Bakare offered his condolences to Deborah Samuel's family and prayed to God to give them the strength to bear the loss.
He appealed to inhabitants of Sokoto State to uphold the tolerance and hospitality they have been known for.
