Delta police arrest, set to prosecute suspect of gay wedding

The Delta State Police Command has threatened to pursue people detained during a gay wedding between Maxwel Ohwonohwo, the bride, 20, and Daniel Pius, the groom, who is 22 years old.

When a skilled team of police officers raided the wedding, no fewer than 67 suspected gays were taken into custody.

One of the suspects, Abel Daniel "m," age 23, admitted that one male suspect who is still at large had sex with him through his anus at the hotel when he was drunk.

Unambiguously, Delta state is not a place for any kind of same-sex relationships, according to CP Wale Abass, the commissioner of police; marriages may only be legally arranged between a man and a woman.

According to him, the prosecution will follow Nigeria's Anti-Gay Law, which outlaws same-sex unions in the nation.

When it paraded the suspects taken into custody at a well-known hotel along Refinery Road, Ekpan in the state's Uvwie local government area, it threatened on Tuesday.

Prior to their arraignment in court, the suspects were paraded by the police at the Ekpan Divisional Police headquarters in Uvwie.

DSP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta Command, confirmed that when members of the divisional patrol team assigned to the Ekpan Division stopped a male cross-dresser who claimed to be an actor, he confessed to being a member of a specific gay club and that he was on his way to join his fellow members for a gay marriage ceremony.
