Deputy governor Aiyedatiwa returns to Ondo, heads exco meeting
Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, returned to the state on Wednesday after meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja last Friday.
Regarding the political crisis roiling the state, the President met with representatives of the Ondo All Progressives Congress.
The relationship between the sick Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa, who was serving as acting governor while his principal was on a lengthy medical vacation in Germany, appeared to have broken down, prompting the Ondo State House of Assembly to push for Aiyedatiwa's impeachment during the raging crisis.
Aiyedatiwa was asked to submit an undated resignation letter as part of the steps being taken to resolve the political crisis, according to the PUNCH, which reported on the Tuesday meeting of the Ondo Assembly.
Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Assembly, claims that Tinubu and the other leaders made the decision during their meeting in Abuja.
It was reported on Wednesday that the constable had visited his office to carry out some official business after arriving back in the state.
Our correspondent was informed by a source in the deputy governor's office that Aiyedatiwa would chair today's (Thursday) state Executive Council meeting.
The source said, “The deputy governor is around and he has resumed office today (Wednesday). He would preside over the exco meeting tomorrow (Thursday).â€
As the state House of Assembly attempted to remove Aiyedatiwa due to allegations of gross misconduct, he has been fighting for political survival in the state.
But the state chief judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola, blocked the Assembly's request to form a seven-member panel to probe the deputy governor, putting the impeachment process on hold.
The crisis erupted in September of this year when Akeredolu returned to the nation following a medical vacation in Germany. President Tinubu intervened as a result of the crisis, meeting with the relevant parties last Friday.
