Diezani Alison-Madueke appears in UK court over bribery offences
Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former minister of petroleum resources, has appeared before the Westminster Magistrate's Court in London on charges of bribery.
This followed an inquiry by the National Crime Agency of the UK, which oversees the nation's efforts to combat severe and organised crime.
Diezani, 63, was a key member of President Goodluck Jonathan's administration from 2010 to 2015. He was also the president of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
The NCA claims that Diezani accepted kickbacks in exchange for signing multimillion-pound oil and gas contracts while she was the Minister for Petroleum Resources.
Diezani allegedly received a variety of benefits, according to the accusations, including cash, limo service, private jet travel, opulent vacations, and access to numerous London houses. Financial advantages like furniture, remodelling work, the payment of private school tuition, and gifts from upscale designer stores were all included in the prizes.
