DSS detains former Ogun PDP governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu
On Monday, Kayode Adebayo, the Publicity Secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, stated that Oladipupo Adebutu, the party's candidate for governor in 2023, had been taken into custody by Department of State Services agents.
He said, “This is to inform members of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, that the leader of the party has indeed been detained by the DSS on charges yet unknown.
“However, our principal has called for calm and directed all members, supporters, and well-wishers to remain assured that this time shall pass. It is one of the prices of our democracy.
“Several efforts have been made to secure his bail as of 10 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, either on personal recognition or through a surety, but none has yielded results so far. His lawyers have been informed and will address the matter on Tuesday morning.”
Adebutu freely accepted a DSS invitation about the conduct of the Saturday Local Government elections, as previously explained by Dr. Sunday Solarin, the secretary of the state PDP branch.
Adebutu has been charged by the government with using unauthorised police officers to carry out acts of violence in the state's Iperu region during the election.
Mohammed Efuwape, the recently elected vice chairman of Ikenne Local Government, and another voter, Biola, were allegedly shot by these officers.
During a briefing on Monday, Adebutu charged that Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun had terrorised opposition members during the polls by using the police, military, and armed thugs.
