EFCC arrest General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International for fraud
Apostle Theophilus Oloche Ebonyi, the General Overseer of Faith On The Rock Ministry International, has been arrested by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly defrauding churchgoers and other Nigerians out of N1.3 billion in fraudulent grants from the Ford Foundation.
Ebonyi was arrested for defrauding his victims, which included non-governmental organisations and individuals, by promoting a fictitious $20 billion intervention project through his Theobarth Global Foundation and falsely claiming that grants were given to the less fortunate from the Ford Foundation in the United States, according to a statement released by the EFCC's spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.
According to the statement, the suspect asked his victims to pay for registration forms and documents in order to trick them into becoming recipients of the fraudulent grant. Every subscriber was forced to pay N1.8 million, and he grinned to his bank, receiving N1.3 billion from gullible Nigerians and non-governmental organisations throughout the nation.
“Investigations by the EFCC showed that Ford Foundation had no arrangement, grant, relationship or business with Ebonyi. The Foundation pointedly disclaimed him and his NGO stressing that it had no link whatsoever with them,†the EFCC statement said on Monday.
According to the commission, it has also located five properties that Ebonyi obtained using the money he received from his illegal activities.
Ebonyi apparently continues to hawk his fictitious grant from the "Ford Foundation" to his subscribers on various social media sites, even after being arrested by the agency.
The statement indicated that after the investigations were finished, the suspect would be charged.
