EFCC arrests 10 officers over alleged theft in Lagos
Ten officials from the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have been detained on suspicion of stealing operational supplies.
The agency claims that the development is a result of an ongoing internal probe meant to preserve the agency's integrity and transparency.
Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the EFCC, ordered the officers to be arrested and detained as part of a larger effort to combat unethical behaviour and corrupt activities among the commission's staff.
Questions about the detained officials' failure to account for specific operational things that were allegedly missing while they were in charge are currently being asked.
“The officers, who were arrested last week on the directives of the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede are answering questions related to the theft of some operational items that they could not account for,” a statement on the EFCC’s X account said on Wednesday.
According to The PUNCH, the EFCC fired 27 of its officers on Monday for misconduct and fraud.
The EFCC's Staff Disciplinary Committee recommended this action, which was implemented.
“Investigators are making good progress and those found culpable will be subjected to internal disciplinary processes.”
