EFCC arrests groom-to-be at bachelor’s eve party in Ondo
The capital of Ondo State, Akure, was invaded by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday, leading to the arrest of suspected online fraudsters in several lounges and clubs.
One of the individuals detained by the anti-graft agency was a prospective groom who was selected while celebrating his bachelor's party in one of the city of Akure's well-known clubs with a few of his pals.
At least fifty suspects were taken into custody by EFCC agents during the early hours of Saturday during the sting operation.
While raiding the fun areas, EFCC personnel arrived in different vehicles and reportedly fired gunshots into the air.
During the operation, in addition to taking away the suspects, cars, laptops, smartphones, and other items were also seized.
One of the sources stated, “we were all having fun when we suddenly saw the EFCC people entering the nightclubs. Then they tear-gassed everyone, beating them up and arresting them.
“They don’t care who they are, as they shot tear gas canisters inside one of the clubs.
“They also went away with a groom and his friends at a club; he was there for his bash eve, so sad as they profiled everyone as an Internet fraudster.”
