EFCC detains Kogi ex-governor Yahaya Bello
Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, has finally been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC.
Bello was taken into custody when he showed up at the EFCC's Abuja headquarters on Tuesday.
The EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, revealed the former governor's imprisonment.
Speaking to reporters, Oyewale claimed that the Commission's head security officer had taken Bello into custody.
“It is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the Commission arrested him,” Oyewale said.
After months of turning down several invitations, Bello and his attorneys visited the EFCC headquarters Tuesday morning to address accusations of financial misappropriation made against him. He and his solicitors visited the EFCC office.
However, the group did not include his replacement, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, who accompanied him to the EFCC office a few weeks ago.
Bello was listed as wanted by the EFCC on April 18, 2024, in relation to a money laundering case of N80.2 billion.
