EFCC fires 27 officers over alleged fraudulent activities, misconduct
Due to allegations of misbehaviour and fraud, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has fired 27 personnel.
The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said in a statement on Monday that Ola Olukoyede, the commission's chairman, gave his approval for the firing.
According to Oyewale, the move was suggested by the anti-graft agency's disciplinary committee.
According to the EFCC spokeswoman, the organisation is also looking into a claim made against a section head.
“Olukoyede reiterated the commitment of the commission to zero tolerance for corruption, warning that no officer is immune to disciplinary measures,” the statement reads in part.
“Every modicum of allegation against any staff of the commission would always be investigated, including a trending $400,000 claim of a yet-to-be-identified supposed staff of the EFCC against a sectional head.
“The core values of the commission are sacrosanct and would always be held in optimal regard at all times.”
The EFCC spokesperson further stated that certain people are extorting money from prominent suspects under investigation by exploiting the EFCC chairman's name.
