EFCC raids NAHCON headquarters over alleged fraud
Allegations of fraud and financial misappropriation prompted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to search the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) offices in Abuja on Tuesday.
The raid, which occurred at 11 a.m., led to the arrest of three more unnamed employees and NAHCON spokesperson Fatimah Usara.
The fact that the agents showed up with a legitimate arrest warrant demonstrated how serious the issue was.
The suspected mishandling of a N90 billion intervention fund meant for the 2024 Hajj is the subject of an ongoing inquiry, which includes this operation.
Vanguard was notified of these developments by a source at the EFCC headquarters, emphasising the seriousness of the accusations against NAHCON.
The EFCC's activities increase the scrutiny of NAHCON's financial operations because they come after an earlier raid at the same commission by the Independent Corrupt operations and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In response to a request for comment, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said that more information on the arrests and the inquiry would be released later.
