EFCC recovers 900m for NHIS program

A further N900 million has been recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the National Health Insurance Program.

Wilson Uwujaren, the commission's spokesman, revealed the information in a statement on Saturday.

He claimed that the amount was a portion of funds that some deposit institutions had been dishonestly holding back from the Treasury Single Account for NHIS since 2015.

He claims that on February 8 the recovered funds were given to NHIS.

He mentioned that on February 10, 2022, the commission released N1.5 billion that had been recovered from the banks to the NHIS.

The commission had also given the program N1.4 billion on August 5, 2022.

On July 29, 2021, Prof. Muhammad Sambo, the NHIS Executive Secretary, commended the EFCC for helping the organization retrieve cash that had become stuck in commercial banks.
