EFCC’s X account was not hacked— Oyewole

The Economic and Financial Crimes Crime Commission refutes reports that it experienced a cyberattack on its Twitter account, X account.

Rumours circulate that the EFCC's X account was compromised by suspected online scammers who threatened to launch a cyberattack.

Reports state that certain online scammers have charged the anti-graft commission with flouting constitutional provisions in their efforts to suppress questionable online activity among Nigerians.

When the account was checked on Thursday morning, it was found to be unavailable. The agency's Facebook and Instagram profiles, as well as its website, were operational, though.

The error was caused by an update made to the agency's account, according to EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, who talked with our correspondent on Thursday.

He assured that the public would soon be able to access the account.

Oyewale said, “We are updating our records on the account. It was not hacked. It will soon start running.”
