EKITI ELECTION: Prof Mahmood Yakubu implores INEC staff to comply with the code of conduct
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed to its staff to comply with the commission's code of conduct, to show the usual sense of responsibility and professionalism, and to resolutely oppose any unethical behaviour during the Ekiti gubernatorial elections on June 18. INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, appealed in his message to the INEC employees in Abuja for the state election.
He advised them to ensure that no political party or candidate was given any advantage over the other. Yakubu said since June 2021, when INEC released the timeline and schedule of activities for the survey, it has jointly conducted several activities and taken all steps to ensure a free, fair, credible and inclusive process. “This election comes seven months after the successful conduct of the Anambra State Governorship Election in November 2021, but it will be historic as it will be the first governorship election to be conducted under the provisions of the new 2022 Electoral Code. "At the stakeholders' meeting held on Tuesday, I reassured the political parties, their flag-bearers and the good people of Ekiti State that the choice of who will be the state's next governor rests entirely in the hands of the electorate. "I said this with confidence because I firmly believe in the commitment, efficiency and determination of all of you, our dedicated employees, to ensure a level-playing field on Election Day, which is just 48 hours away," he said.
