Ekweremadu, wife convicted on organ trafficking charges
Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president, and his wife, Beatrice, were found guilty of organ trafficking by a British court.
Sonia, Ekweremadu's daughter, and Obinna Obeta, a doctor who was accused of facilitating the flight of a young man to Britain with the intention of exploiting him, were both found guilty.
After a six-week trial, Judge Jeremy Johnson found the defendants guilty on Thursday in London.
Last year, the Metropolitan Police detained Ekweremadu and his wife for enticing a young man from Nigeria to the UK with the intention of harvesting his organs.
Although they denied the charges, the court only granted bail to Beatrice, keeping the serving senator from Enugu State in detention throughout the trial.
The defendants' sentences will be determined later by the court.
