Emir of Kano Bayero meets Ajuwale in Ijebu-Ode

In honour of the first-class monarch's 90th birthday and 60 years on the throne, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, visited Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, on Wednesday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The visit is also intended to deepen the friendly ties that have long existed between the Awujale and the late Alhaji Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano.

The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the long-standing relationships between two of Nigeria's most prestigious traditional institutions.

In a previous letter dated May 19, 2024, and personally signed by the Kano Emirate's Emir, the Kano Emirate had stated that the visit's two main goals were to honour Oba Adetona on his birthday and to commemorate his noteworthy accomplishments as king.

The Emir stated, “We wish to pay our respects to His Majesty to strengthen the cordial relationship that has been in existence for several years between the Awujale of Ijebuland and our father, the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, of blessed memory. At the same time, we will seize the opportunity to felicitate His Majesty for attaining the age of 90 years, as well as being on the throne for 64 years.”

Due to their similar cultural values and mutual respect, the Kano Emirate and the Ijebu Kingdom have a historically significant relationship.
