Ex-convict, one other suspect nabbed for alleged theft
Samson Ojo, 17, and Abdullahi Idowu, 18, an ex-offender, have been taken into custody by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, or So-Safe Corps, for stealing engine parts from a generator in the Idiroko border region of the state's Ipokia Local Government region.
This was said in a statement released on Tuesday by Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, Director of Information and Public Relations, on behalf of Soji Ganzallo, the corps commander of the state government-established security group.
The statement read, “Abdullahi Idowu, 18, a resident of the Babaloke area, Idiroko, and Samson Ojo, 17, residing at Etikoto, Ikolaje area, Idiroko—were apprehended around 10:30 p.m. on November 17, 2024. Both locations fall under the Ipokia Local Government Area.
‘The suspects were caught during a joint routine patrol by the Special Squad and the Idiroko Divisional Team of the corps, led by Chief Superintendent Abdulkareem Abdulrazaq.
“Upon their arrest, they were found with two bags containing stolen generator engine parts.”
Ganzallo disclosed that Idowu is an ex-offender who was incarcerated in the Benin Republic, according to the results of an initial investigation.
The former prisoner was alleged to have confessed during questioning to stealing the generator engine parts from the border area of Idiroko and to taking a huge battery the Friday before, which he then sold to a scrap dealer.
It was determined that the stolen generator parts belonged to a customs office after the suspects were reportedly brought to the scene of the robbery in Idiroko.
Additional generator components were found in a bush. Ganzallo added that the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command, Idiroko, has received the suspects and the recovered products for additional investigation.
