Ex-Kwara gov Abdulfatah Ahmed granted bail
Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, the former governor of Kwara State, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court located in Ilorin.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Ahmed on suspicion of engaging in fraudulent activities involving billions of naira while he served as Kwara State's governor.
The former governor was also charged by the anti-graft agency with chartering private aircraft using funds intended for the state government's operating expenses and security, totaling N1,610,730,500.00.
Judge Evelyn Anyadike did, however, impose eight conditions on the former governor's release through bail.
Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), the prosecutor's attorney for the EFCC, revealed that the court only approved Ahmed's bail request subject to eight requirements.
While bemoaning the mistreatment of his client, the defendant's attorney, Kehinde Eleja (SAN), stated that the court had the authority to decide whether to prosecute the former governor.
‘It has used it in support of the defendant’s plea”, he noted.
The case has been postponed by the judge until April 29 and 30.
