Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, a former governorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has resigned from the opposition party due to its protracted internal strife.

Jegede informed the chairman of the PDP in Ward 11, Owode/Imagun Ward, Akure South Local Government Area, Fabiyi Kole Adewale, of his decision in a resignation letter dated August 7, 2026.

The former candidate for governor declared that his exit from the party was effective right now.

“Kindly take this as a formal notice of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, effective immediately,” Jegede wrote.

In the 2016 and 2020 governorship elections, Jegede, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State under former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, represented the PDP.

He ran against the late former governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in both elections but lost both times.

Jegede confirmed his departure from the PDP and promised to reveal his future political move when the time was right.

“Yes, I can confirm my resignation from the PDP. I will also let you know my next political move,” he told a reporter.
