Falana calls on the federal government to meet teachers' demand and end strike

Respected human rights lawyer Femi Falana proclaimed the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is ready to end its ongoing strike.

This was included in a statement released on Thursday by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Falana has now called on the federal government to comply with the teachers' demands and end the strike that began on February 14.

This comes less than 72 hours after Falana called on the federal government to submit a supplementary budget of a reasonable N200 billion to overhaul federal universities across Nigeria.

“Based on our consultation with ASUU leadership, we have confirmed that all ASUU members stand ready to call off the strike once the newly negotiated agreement between FG and ASUU is signed by the federal government.

"Under the circumstances, we are compelled to urge President Buhari to end the industrial action by instructing the Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, to implement the newly negotiated agreement. The agreement should be implemented as soon as possible in the public interest,” said Falana.
