Federal government approves recruitment of 3,927 Customs officers
The Nigeria Customs Service's contribution is essential to implementing Nigeria's anticipated N48 trillion 2025 budget, according to Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Additionally, Edun disclosed that the hiring of 3,927 Customs officers has been authorised by the Federal Government.
Edun made this claim at the 61st quarterly board meeting of the NCS, which was held in Abuja recently, according to a statement released on Sunday by Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the service.
Additionally, he praised the service's crucial contribution to Nigeria's economic resurgence. Maiwada emphasised that the meeting came after President Bola Tinubu gave the National Assembly the 2025 budget, which he dubbed "A Budget of Restoration."
Speaking further, Edun said, “The budget projects N35tn in revenue, with the NCS expected to play a critical role.”
“The NCS and other revenue bodies have performed remarkably well,” he said.
The minister further disclosed that in order to finance the remaining N13 trillion, the government intends to get grants, concessional loans, and development assistance.
Edun added that in order to close gaps and improve trade facilitation, the board approved the hiring of 3,927 officers and gave exceptional promotions to high-performing staff after reviewing the NCS's 2024 accomplishments.
