Federal government renames Minna Airport after President Bola Tinubu
The Minna airport in Niger State has been renamed after President Bola Tinubu by the federal government.
The president will officially open the airport today, according to information released by the state's commissioner of information, Binta Mamman, on Sunday during a press conference at Government House in Minna.
Previously, the airport bore the name of the late Abubakar Imam, one of 15 airports across the nation that bore the names of notable Nigerian figures.
According to Mamman, when President Tinubu visits Minna, he would also commission a few mechanised farming implements.
“All is set for the Niger State Government to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Minna, the state capital. During the President’s visit, he will commission the remodelled and upgraded terminal at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport,” she said.
Following the completion of the airport, Niger State is now well-positioned to play a significant role in the North Central aero hub, according to state governor Mohammed Umaru Bago.
He gave a speech after being named Grand Patron of the Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) by the organization's national leadership.
Fresh fruits and vegetables from a dedicated agro-processing zone would be transported both domestically and internationally, according to Bago.
According to him, as part of the federal government's initiative to increase food security, farmers in the state have received no less than 500 tractors and 200 power tillers.
