Federal govt extends free train rides till January 7

In order to ease the financial burden on travellers who are leaving the holiday period for various destinations, the Federal Government has extended the free train ride initiative until Sunday.

This was disclosed to reporters in Lagos on Thursday by Mr. Fidet Okhiria, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).

He said that the choice was made to facilitate the movement of Nigerians who had travelled during the holiday season in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

To avoid crowds at the various terminals, Okhiria urged travellers to keep booking their tickets online.

In order for passengers to be able to access and board the trains, the NRC chief asked them to make sure they obtained their tickets from the proper locations at no cost.

He complimented the federal government for the extension and said that travellers would benefit from the lower transportation costs.

The NRC announced that, in accordance with President Bola Tinubu's directive, free train rides would be available for all of its passenger services starting on December 21, 2023, according to DAILY POST.

Prior to being extended until Sunday, the free service was scheduled to expire on Thursday.
