Federal workers begin indefinite protest in Ibadan
Due to the purported non-payment of their five months' worth of unpaid wage awards and other emoluments, Federal Government employees in Oyo State, acting through the Federal Workers Forum, started an indefinite protest yesterday.
Comrade Andrew Emelieze, the National Coordinator, spearheaded the demonstration in front of the Federal Government Secretariat in Ikolaba, Ibadan.
Singing solidarity songs and holding signs to express their disapproval of the Federal Government, the demonstrators, who arrived to the secretariat at 7 a.m. before other employees arrived to report for work, blocked the main entrance.
Speaking to reporters, Emelieze stated that the workers wanted the introduction of a 40% unique allowance, the payment of its arrears, and the payment of the five months' worth of unpaid salary award arrears.
He claimed that the Federal Government's 21-day deadline to address their concerns had passed.
