FG announces August 25 public holiday to mark Eid-ul-maulud
To commemorate this year's Eid-ul-Maulid, which is observed in honour of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the Federal Government has designated Tuesday, August 25, a national holiday.
The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government and wished Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora a very happy holiday.
“Every Eid-ul-Maulid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.
“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them.”
In a statement written by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the ministry's permanent secretary, the minister stated that the time should also be used for group prayer for national harmony and peace.
According to him, maintaining national unity is still a shared duty.
In addition, Tunji-Ojo wished the Muslim community a happy and peaceful Eid and urged people to observe the holiday with moderation and respect for one another.
He reiterated the current administration's commitment to protecting people and property across and maintaining peace at all times.
