FG announces that Dangote, Kogi have agreed to open Obajana cement facility
The federal government reports that the Kogi state government and Dangote Group have struck a deal to reopen the Obajana cement facility.
At the conclusion of the national security council meeting on Friday in Abuja, Mohammed Dingyadi, the minister of police affairs, confirmed this to state house reporters.
Disputes have arisen between the Kogi government and the Dangote Group as a result of the state's decision to close off the cement plant due to ownership disputes.
Asserting that the alleged transfer of the facility to Dangote was not "legitimate," the state government maintained on Thursday that the factory must remain closed.
Contrary to what the state administration claimed, Dangote claimed that the acquisition of the cement plant was done legally and fairly.
In response to the efforts made to settle the conflict, Dingyadi claimed that a deal had been struck to assure the plant's reopening to promote peace in the state.
“An agreement has been reached between the Kogi state government and the Dangote Cement in Kogi on the need to re-open the factory and ensure that there is peace in the state,†he said.
"Government is committed to the provision of employment to its citizens rather than closing factories that will make people unemployed and we do hope that the parties involved will respect this agreement and come to terms with the memorandum of understanding signed by the parties involved.â€
The minister claimed that Ibrahim Gambari, the president's chief of staff, oversaw the agreement's negotiation.
