FG set to build super grid to boost power supply
The Federal Government has finished plans to build what it called a super grid in an attempt to avert the constant collapse of the national grid. This was revealed in a statement that Bolaji Tunji, the Minister of Power's media aide, provided to our correspondent on Tuesday.
He said that Adebayo Adelabu, the minister of electricity, gave a speech in China while he was there for the China-Africa Cooperation Summit.
Adelabu has criticised the national grid, stating that the plan for the electricity industry could not be supported by it in its current shape.
“If we look at the strength, the capacity and the age of our existing network on the national grid, it cannot really support our vision for the power sector hence the need for the construction of the Western and Eastern super grid.
“Though we have been on this since my resumption, I can also tell you that the President is in full support of this because this will improve our transmission network, stabilise the grid and also expand the capacity and the flexibility of the national grid,” he stated.
According to Adelabu, 90% of the necessary approvals are in place and will be completed shortly.
