FG to drop firearms case charge against Emefiele
The federal government is attempting to have the gun possession allegation against suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele dropped.
The federal government made an oral application to drop the case on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Abubakar Mohammed, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of the Federal Ministry of Justice, said to Nicholas Oweibo, the judge, that the plea for withdrawal was based on the findings of additional government investigations.
Mr Mohammed later told journalists that they “will probably come back with more charges, more counts†against the suspended bank chief.
Mr. Emefiele was charged with two counts of "illegal possession" of firearms and live ammunition on July 25.
He was then given a N20 million bail. But as soon as he left the courthouse, the SSS detained him once more in violation of the court's order that he be held at the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
After a fight over his custody broke out between the two federal agencies, he was again taken into custody.
