Millions of naira worth of goods and property were destroyed yesterday night when a midnight fire consumed the well-known Ladipo Plank Market, Amukoko, in the Orile Iganmu neighbourhood of Lagos.

An eyewitness stated that the fire began at around 12:30 a.m., however the cause could not be determined at the time of publication.

He said: “Fortunately, no life was lost. However, goods and property yet to be enumerated were destroyed in the fire.”

The fire has been extinguished, according to Mr. Amodu Shakira, Head of Public Education for the Lagos State Fire Service.

He stated that the fire impacted five lanes and more than 300 stores in the marketplace.

He said that earlier, the state had dispatched delegates to express sympathy to traders who had lost their belongings in the fire.
