Fire erupts in Lagos market, destroys properties
Tuesday's fire outbreak at Lagos' well-known Balogun Market resulted in the destruction of products and property worth several billion naira.
According to information obtained by LEADERSHIP, the Tuesday morning fire incident included a five-story building in the market.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, however, claimed that the fire had been put out.
Firefighters from two divisions of the Lagos Fire Service, according to the agency, were sent to the area to put out the blaze.
However, a person whose store was damaged claimed that the fire was still blazing because it had completely destroyed two stories.
But, according to the Lagos State administration, firefighters are already battling the roaring blaze.
The fire has been put out, according to a statement from Adeseye Margaret, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five-storey building. The Fire is, however, under control as mitigation are on to limit its spread. Update to follows as the situation unfolds,†she said.
Also, Jubril A. Gawat, the senior special assistant (SSA) to the governor of Lagos State for new media, revealed on his Twitter account that the fire was under control and that efforts were being made to limit its spread.
The governor’s aide wrote: “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five-storey building. The Fire is however under control as mitigation is on to limit its spread.â€
