Fire guts firework factory in Central India, leaves 11 people dead
Tuesday saw a fire tear through a fireworks factory in central India, leaving approximately 150 people injured and 11 people dead as it caused more explosions, according to officials.
Social media videos showed the plant erupting in flames and smoke, sending nearby residents running for their lives.
It was not immediately apparent what started the fire in the Madhya Pradesh state's Harda.
At least eleven people have died in the fire, according to Pawan Kumar Sharma, the area's senior administrative officer, who informed reporters that rescuers were searching the debris to see if anyone was trapped. According to senior police officer Ishad Wali, there were about 150 injuries.
Firecrackers, which are utilised during religious festivals and weddings, are in high demand in India. Nearly every year, fatal incidents happen as a result of workers in temporary factories not using the appropriate safety precautions.
Eight people were murdered in an explosion at a fireworks business in southern India in July of last year. 2018 saw the deaths of 17 employees due to a large fire at a fireworks plant in New Delhi. A year prior, in a village in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, a blast claimed the lives of twenty-three persons who were producing firecrackers.
