Fire outbreak destroys property in Ilorin

Property valued at N27.8 million was destroyed by a fire that broke out on Friday in the Ile Oba-Ologun iIta-Amadu neighbourhood of Ilorin, in the Ilorin West Local Government Area, the capital of Kwara State.

According to state fire service spokesperson Hakeem Adekunle, the fire incident occurred at approximately 17:00hrs (05:00PM) on Saturday and resulted in a power surge that destroyed a building consisting of approximately two flats and six rooms in Ilorin.

He said that as soon as firefighters arrived on the scene, they got to work dousing the flames and stopping the fire from getting any bigger.

“Through the use of specialized equipment and firefighting techniques, the fire service personnel worked diligently to bring the situation under control.

"Six rooms were affected in the building, however, the firemen were able to perform excellently well to minimize the damage, therefore other flats in the building including many tangible properties were saved from the fire,” he added.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, urged the populace to develop the habit of turning off their electrical appliances, even before going to bed.

He explained that “it would help them to prevent the chances of fire outbreaks in their various homes, and also help them to drastically reduce it.”
