Fire razes 17 shops in Ibadan, destroys millions worth of properties
On Monday, 17 stores at the Moniya market in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State were devastated by a terrible fire that destroyed products valued at millions of naira.
It is thought that a power surge started the fire, which started at around 12.30 am.
The fire had burned cash and valuable items, causing extensive damage.
According to PUNCH Online, Kolawole Balogun, the Babaloja of Moniya Garage, and Saliu Bello, the Chairman of the Garage, said that a security guard had notified them about the fire at around 12.30 am. The magnitude of the losses deeply troubled both.
Balogun said, “I rushed to the market as soon as I got the call. We lost multimillion-naira goods. The prompt arrival of the fire service prevented even greater devastation.
“In addition to the goods, cash in millions of naira was also destroyed. Many traders often store their money in their shops when they leave for the night.”
Yetunde Musa, Ajetunmobi Idowu, Olaide Badmus, Balogun Sulaimon, and Ajetunmobi Kolawole were among the victims who urged the government to offer those impacted immediate assistance.
